If you think you've heard music before this moment, you're probably right.....but just to make sure, please do wander around this site.

On a Friday like this, several years ago… #3

Last week I looked back at Oasis. Some of you liked it, some of you didn’t. Well This week I’m looking back at Oasis and their connection to other artists I like.

You’ve heard of Chemical Brothers….right?

Well they’ve been around for a long, long time. What really shot them to fame, however, was their collaboration with Noel Gallagher on Setting Sun (oh wait…you didn’t know that was Noel singing?)

The Chemical Brothers feat. Noel Gallagher – Setting Sun (1996)

A few years later,  they collaborated again giving us this gem:

The Chemical Brothers feat. Noel Gallagher – Let Forever Be (1999)

Noel has done a few tracks as well. One being an instrumental featured on the OST of X-Files: Fight the Future film from 1998. which was later taken and made into a vocal track with, dare I say again, legendary Ian Brown of Stone Roses.

The Original: Noel Gallagher – Teotihuacan (1998)

The follow up: Ian Brown feat. Noel Gallagher – Keep What Ya Got (2004)

All I can hope for now, is more quality music from Noel without Oasis.

PS. If you haven’t heard about this already, in 2008 at Virgin Festival here in Toronto, Noel got knocked over by an idiot that’s now still being tried for his actions and Noel has said he wants to be present for all hearings. HA!

If you know me well, you’ll probably also know how much a fan I am of Oasis. Growing up, there were some silly people that thought I changed my name to Liam or used it as a moniker just because of my obsession with them. No, we’re not going to cover Wonderwall this week.

Yes we know Oasis was notorious and got on a lot of people’s nerves. But alas, On August 28th, 2009 Noel announced his departure from the legendary band that was “Familiar to Millions“. It’s surprising how despite all the hype about this news, many still don’t know. They’re just another band right?

This Friday as many of you in and around Toronto that are snowed in or afraid to venture out (and the rest of you around the world as well lucky not to be snowed in), lets take a look back at some of my top favourites of Oasis over the years.

RIP 1991-2009

As of today, I will start giving you, my readers, an insight into some of the tracks that I cherished growing up and hopefully introduce you to something new or bring back a fond memory from a time way back when that will put a smile on your face.

This friday I’m going to go back to 1998. Not such a distant past but one I remember well for tracks such as Lovestation – Teardrops. I don’t know how many of you actually heard it but it seems that despite there being a video and it selling so well, I still get  a weird look when I mention it. Sorta “umm…LOVEstation? TEARDROPS?…what is this? cheesy pop music?”. No it isn’t (or rather wasn’t) pop music, in the traditional sense, despite there being a video and being aired on TV a lot.

You may or may not have heard of Womack & Womack (Cecil & Linda Womack that is) who released a song by the same name in 1988 that was bigger than ever. Yes, it’s the original. You may have also recently heard the Sugababes cover from 2009…..seems this track has a way of coming back every 10 years.

You’re probably tired of reading so lets cut to the vids courtesy of youtube:

Lovestation – Teardrops (1998)

Womack & Womack – Teardrops (1988)

and for the sake of comparison,

Sugababes – Teardrops (2009)

Emika – Drop The Other

This track is just so amazing. It’s been a while since I’ve heard something hauntingly comforting such as this.

Discovered it while checking out Somfay’s Beatport February chart. Some really uniquely awesome selections *here*

Testing out my Youtube <-> Site

Just hooked up my youtube account to my site and figured I might as well test it out with a track by Kane44 who’s a damn good producer and DJ.

I might have to switch to Coca Cola now

thanks to the superbowl 2010 ad….

Daft Punk releases first track from the upcoming Tron soundtrack

Thoughts? I for one think its a blast to the past and far from a new sound.

EDIT:

turns out that was not actually Daft Punk but rather someone named Pilot Priest from here, Toronto, and was just some pwnage over all the magazines that covered it. lol
