It’s been several weeks since the last classic Friday..why? pffft I wish I knew!
Well after a ‘heatwave’ this week in Toronto, it’s nice and rainy…so here are some of my favourite classic rain oriented songs (or videos in the rain) in non-chronological order:

What makes this Friday so special? Well it’s proper patio weather this time. The last time was just some fake thing and we ended up freezing out and had to go in for shelter….boooo.

Once upon a time, on a Friday long long ago, there were tunes that kept the world spinning just as they do today.
We all know tracks that made us giggle like school kids over the implicit or explicit meanings behind them….This Friday’s classics shall focus on just those.
So much for Saturday posts. HA! Well last Saturday’s party, Return of the Red Eyes, was a smashing success thanks to all of you that showed up, the last minute change in DJ lineup (Perry Mejer replacing Peter Godzina and Nigel Best replacing Jeff Button), and everyone getting very silly .
It was such a great success, that we’ve been asked to do another party there. So stay tuned for details about our Beat Axis party on May 21st, 2010!
Back to the classics for today. Over the past couple weeks, I’ve been extremely busy and quite happy with all that’s been going on in my life so this weekend, we’re going to look at some happy classics that have always put a smile on my face, no matter what.

Apologies to all of you who waited patiently last week for the post that never came. As most of you already know, I recently started a new job that’s been consuming a lot of my time (but I’m FINE with that )
So this weekend is a very close friend’s birthday so I’m going to feature some tracks that he and I used to just smile to whenever we heard them at parties. Before I start off, here’s the info for our party tomorrow, do come by and have a few drinks with us.

Today, being Good Friday, I’d like you all to have a listen to one of the best soundtracks to a musical…
…you may have guessed which one already. Yes, it’s Jesus Christ Superstar (1971).
Here’s a little excerpt from the Wikipedia article (link):
Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opera that became a musical by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. It highlights the political and interpersonal struggles of Judas Iscariot and Jesus that is not described in the Bible. The rock opera is based on St John’s Gospel account of the last week of Jesus’ life, beginning with the preparation for Jesus’ and his disciples arrival in Jerusalem and ending with the Crucifixion. Twentieth-century attitudes and sensibilities as well as contemporary slang pervade the lyrics and ironic allusions to modern life are scattered throughout the political depiction of the events. Stage and film productions accordingly feature many intentional anachronisms.
You may or may not be a Christian or for that matter even a theist. this soundtrack however was, and still is, a masterpiece.
My dad would play his records of this album as a tradition every Good Friday. I don’t know why we didn’t listen to it today…hmmm
Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT watch the movie from 1973 because that was just painfully stupid to watch (featuring aircrafts, tanks, guns etc)

I.D. & Baobinga recently released a full length album that they have put up for download for whatever you want to pay for it ($0-whatever). All money raised from the sales of this album go towards Dove House Hospice Charity in the UK.
I just listened to it and am thoroughly pleased with yet another great set of tracks from these heavy hitters.
